Root Chakra (Muladhara)
LOCATION: located at the base of the spine.
DESCRIPTION: the ability to survive, feel stable and safe. When the root chakra is balanced we have adequate energy, feel grounded, and have a sense of belonging. Think of the root chakra as the base/root of the tree. It begins all the chakra systems.
CRYSTALS: Red and dark-coloured crystals can help balance your root chakra. Try onyx, black obsidian, red jasper, garnet, and hematite. You can use them in meditation or wear them.
BODY LINKS: Immune system; adrenals, Skeletal system; legs, feet, knees, ankles, spinal, including tailbone. If you show symptoms of anemia, fatigue, or hemorrhoids, or have weight problems this can be because of an imbalance in the root chakra.
FOODS: Foods which are grown close to or underground are helpers of the root chakra. Carrots, potatoes, onions, and beets are great for the root chakra. Red plants like pomegranate and strawberries also work well.
HERBS: like cinnamon, ginger and cloves. These are all found in traditional chai and can aid in cleansing and elimination. Just skip sugar additive.
YOGA EXERCISES: Standing yoga poses such as warrior pose and balancing poses like tree pose, dancer’s pose, or pyramid pose are great ways to help activate your root chakra.
DANCE can also help with balancing and is a fun way to get moving. Body movements help balance the chakras.
